“We need to create a culture of reading among these men.”
Pastor Julius
The vision
We envision a future where pastors in rural East Africa have the necessary books and study resources to develop a culture of reading and mentorship in order to help them to preach the Gospel, teach the Scriptures and lead the Church effectively.
Our books
Reliable
Our books are consistent with Reformed theology, broadly understood to include the doctrine of the Westminster Standards, the Three Forms of Unity, the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith, and the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Church of England. Not all of our authors subscribe to one of these confessions, but we do not publish anything that is opposed to them.
Accessible
Our books are the right length and reading level for the pastors we hope to help. We revise and edit all of our publications to achieve brevity, clarity, and simplicity, without compromising on accuracy or depth.
Useful
Our books are ready for pastors to use in their daily and weekly ministry. They address subjects relevant to their preaching, counseling, and leadership. They come with study guides and lesson outlines, in order to help our readers develop their abilities to study, evaluate, and communicate this material.
Affordable
Our books are priced for pastors and churches with limited budgets. Our publications start either with older material that is in the public domain, or with permissions from current authors and publishers to use their work without royalties. We use established local relationships to get them into the right hands.
In progress
Our work has already begun, and we have several ongoing projects that are at various stages:
Aaron Dunlop, The Work of the Ministry
This book began life as a paper presented at the Synod of the Independent Presbyterian Church (IPC) of Kenya, in December 2019. It is published and available for purchase.
Michael Haykin, The Empire of the Spirit
This excellent book was originally published in 2014. We are ready to print our own adapted edition, with a new foreword by the author.
Adolph Saphir, Christ Crucified
This little book is a beautiful study in the person and work of Christ. We are currently revising it for a new audience.
A Roadmap
We want to get our books into the right hands in a way that promotes a culture of reading and mentorship. Our partners in the local area will help us with distribution and we will work to strengthen and multiply these partnerships.
As we make progress in producing and distributing suitable resources, we hope to expand their impact and reach in other ways:
A library in a box, filled with resources for every part of a pastor’s ministry.
Mentored reading programs, to help pastors in their reading and study.
Conferences for pastors that will build on the resources we produce.
There are many other opportunities for the future. Our initial focus is on Kenya, where we already have contact with missionaries, colleges, and local pastors who are interested in The Krapf Project and willing to help. We also have contacts in other parts of Africa, and we hope our resources will meet a similar need in these places.
